Stewardship
At WyoClimbers, stewardship means caring for the climbing areas we love—today, tomorrow, and for generations to come. As climbers, we recognize our role as stewards of the land, and we are committed to protecting access, preserving natural resources, and partnering with land managers and local communities to ensure that climbing continues to coexist sustainably with the wild places that make it possible.
What Stewardship Means to Us
Stewardship goes beyond picking up trash or maintaining trails. It’s about taking responsibility for the long-term health of climbing areas. It means listening to the land, respecting the people and wildlife that call these places home, and making thoughtful, informed choices as we climb, recreate, and build community.
Our Stewardship Work
WyoClimbers leads and supports stewardship efforts that are climber-driven, community-focused, and conservation-minded. Some of our key stewardship initiatives include:
Trail Building + Maintenance
We organize volunteer days to maintain and improve access trails, reduce erosion, and protect fragile ecosystems around climbing areas like Sinks Canyon, Wild Iris, and beyond.Infrastructure Improvements
We work with land managers to install and maintain sustainable hardware (bolts, anchors) and build amenities like signage, belay platforms, and parking improvements to reduce impact.Climber Education
Through events, workshops, and digital resources, we teach Leave No Trace principles, respectful access practices, and the importance of giving back to the places we climb.Advocacy + Land Management Partnerships
We collaborate with the BLM, US Forest Service, state parks, and private landowners to ensure that climbing access is preserved while protecting the land’s cultural, recreational, and ecological value.Annual Adopt-a-Crag + Volunteer Days
Every year, we host events that bring our community together to get their hands dirty and give back. These events strengthen our connection to the land and to each other.Highway Clean Up
As part of our broader commitment to the land and local community, we’ve hosted highway cleanup days to help keep the scenic byways near our climbing areas clean, safe, and beautiful.
